Research

David has experience in multiple facets of additive manufacturing that include modelling, process monitoring, and multi-material design. Prior work includes calibrating FEA models with high-dimensional data to improve prediction of the mechanical performance of as-printed parts. These calibrated models can serve as a basis for multi-material design and provide physical insights into the behavior of multi-material systems. David’s Ph.D. work involves in situ characterization of the thermal and thermomechanical histories of several material systems processed by additive friction stir deposition, in order to establish a relationship between processing parameters, processing history, and as-deposited microstructure.
