Research

Seyed's extensive research is centered on advancing metal additive manufacturing (AM) with a strong emphasis on leveraging in-situ synchrotron x-ray monitoring techniques. His primary objective has been the development of an optimized and reliable manufacturing process, achieved through meticulous real-time analysis of the inherent dynamics and physics within the AM process. This work encompasses a comprehensive examination of subscale dynamics, including the dynamics of defects such as pores and cracks, alongside a thorough investigation of melt pool dynamics during AM. This research has also been pivotal in the creation of closed-loop monitoring systems that facilitate the post-qualification of printed parts. In addition to his work in process improvement, Seyed has significantly impacted the field through the design of novel alloy metals tailored to enhance processability and overall performance in additive manufacturing.
